55m on mud in 2–4m. The inner archipelago position and excellent mud bottom make this one of the quietest and most reliable anchorages in the south-central archipelago. South exposure is the limiting factor — in southerly wind above F4, move to Nämndösund.

About This Anchorage

Kymmendö is a remote island in the south-inner Stockholm Archipelago, notable as the setting of August Strindberg's famous novel 'Hemsöborna' (1887) — widely considered one of the finest Swedish literary descriptions of archipelago life. Strindberg lived on the island and the novel's descriptions of skerries, storms, and island communities are drawn directly from his experience here. Today the island is unspoiled, with a few summer cottages and no commercial facilities. The anchorage in the sound is quiet and reliable. Visiting Kymmendö is a literary pilgrimage as much as a sailing destination — a way to understand the archipelago through one of its greatest writers.
