About This Anchorage
Szczecin (Stettin) is the largest city of northwest Poland and one of the most historically significant cities on the western Baltic coast — once a major German Hanseatic city (Stettin) before becoming Polish after WWII. The city's waterfront marinas on the Oder (Odra) riverbank are a remarkable destination — the rebuilt Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes dominates the riverbank, and the National Museum houses extraordinary collections. The old Hakenterasse (now Wały Chrobrego) terraces overlooking the river were built by the German city and remain one of the great urban waterfronts of the Baltic. Szczecin has undergone a remarkable renaissance as a Polish city — excellent restaurants, museums, and cultural life. The city is 65nm by water from the Baltic via the Szczecin Lagoon.
