About This Anchorage

The eastern channels of the Oder delta are among the most remote and ecologically rich sailing destinations in the Baltic region. The delta is a UNESCO-candidate wetland of international importance — a vast labyrinth of channels, oxbow lakes, reed beds, and willow carr. The birdlife is extraordinary: white-tailed eagles, black storks, great white egrets, kingfishers, and bitterns are resident. The water in the channels is effectively freshwater with very soft mud that provides extraordinary holding. Navigation requires care — the channels are not all marked and depths vary. For self-sufficient sailors who carry paper charts and have time to explore, this is one of the most rewarding nature experiences available from a Baltic anchorage.
