About This Anchorage

The western reaches of Gdańsk Bay offer a deeper anchorage in soft mud away from the busiest port approaches. This is a holding anchorage used by larger vessels awaiting wind changes or port access. The mud bottom provides excellent holding once the anchor is fully buried. The anchorage has a clear view of the Gdańsk skyline — the rebuilt old town with its characteristic stepped gable buildings and the imposing St. Mary's Church (the largest brick church in the world) are visible on clear days. This area sees less commercial traffic than the port approaches but is exposed to the full northern fetch.
