About This Anchorage
The Gdańsk Outer Roads serve as the primary waiting anchorage for vessels approaching the Port of Gdańsk — one of the largest ports on the Baltic Sea and Poland's most important maritime gateway. The anchorage lies north of the main breakwater complex in open water, exposed to the northern quadrant but protected from the prevailing westerlies by the coast. The historic city of Gdańsk (formerly Danzig) with its rebuilt medieval old town and the iconic cranes of the Długie Pobrzeże (Long Embankment) are visible from the anchorage. The port handles enormous volumes of container traffic and bulk cargo. The Solidarity monument at the Gdańsk Shipyard — birthplace of the movement that ended communist rule in Poland — is just minutes away by dinghy or taxi.

- !Anchor light mandatory — commercial traffic navigates at night
Skipper's Tips
- →Use this anchorage only as a short-term holding stop before entering Gdańsk Marina — much more comfortable and secure
- →Gdańsk old town (Główne Miasto) is a 20-minute walk from the marina — the rebuilt Gothic architecture is extraordinary
- →The European Solidarity Centre museum at the historic shipyard is a must-visit — book in advance in summer
- →Baltic water levels: check wind forecast for next 24h — sustained N winds can pile water against the coast by 0.5–1.0m
- →VHF Ch. 12 for Gdańsk Port control; Ch. 16 for distress and calling
