Anchorages in West Estonian Archipelago
Väinameri (Moon Sound) — critical shallow water warning
The Väinameri is an inland sea between the Estonian mainland and the island chain averaging just 1–2m depth. Keelboats with draft over 1.5m must navigate strictly on the marked channel — depths outside can drop to 0.5m. Many inner archipelago anchorages (including Kassari) are inaccessible to keelboats. Catamarans and shallow-draft vessels can explore freely. Always verify current channel marks with Estonian Maritime Administration before passage. UNESCO Biosphere Reserve rules apply across the archipelago.
