About This Anchorage

Arkutino is a small coastal lagoon enclosed behind a narrow sand bar — a formation typical of the southern Bulgarian coast where small rivers and coastal drift create lagoon systems sheltered from the open sea. The Arkutino lagoon and its surrounding area form part of the Ropotamo Nature Reserve, protecting a transitional ecosystem between the Black Sea, freshwater wetland, and coastal forest. The beach here is undeveloped and wild — a stretch of fine sand with no sunloungers, no cafés, no commercial development. Water lilies and reeds fringe the lagoon. The sand bar separating the lagoon from the sea creates interesting anchorage dynamics — the water in the approach bay is calmer than the open coast, with the bar providing some swell damping. One of the most tranquil and natural anchorages in the south Bulgaria sailing area.
