About This Anchorage

Batteaux Bay is a small, relatively sheltered bay on Tobago's northeast coast between Speyside and Charlotteville — one of the less-visited anchorages on the Atlantic side, offering some shelter from the north while remaining accessible to the Speyside dive sites. The name derives from the French 'bateau' (boat) reflecting Tobago's French colonial history. The beach is small and often empty. Jungle-clad hills tumble down to the water on both sides. The bay receives some protection from the northeast headland but the Atlantic easterly trade wind swell typically enters from the southeast. A quiet and peaceful stop for boats exploring the northeast coast, best treated as a day anchorage or overnight in settled conditions.
