Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius

65m on mud/clay in 3–5m with current alignment. Allow for the boat to swing to current rather than wind — the sound's orientation means these are often different. Generous scope recommended. Current creates catenary in chain.

About This Anchorage

Furusund is the main gateway to the northern Stockholm Archipelago — the narrow sound used by all vessels heading between central Stockholm and the outer northern archipelago and Gulf of Bothnia. The village has a continuously staffed pilot station (one of the busiest in Sweden), a gästhamn, restaurant, and small provisions shop. The sound itself is historically significant — the Furusundslots (pilot station) has operated here since the 17th century guiding vessels through the complex outer approaches. Anchorage in the sheltered bay gives access to the village and the beautiful forested islands of the northern archipelago. Furusund is an ideal staging point before heading north to Finnhamn or the outer northern skerries.
