About This Anchorage
Battowia is a tiny, uninhabited volcanic islet south of Baliceaux, rising from the sea as a rocky outpost between the Upper and Lower Grenadines. The anchorage on the western lee is only suitable in settled conditions — the islet provides limited protection from the NE trades and is exposed to the west, south, and northwest. The primary attraction is the diving and snorkelling on the surrounding rocky reef, which is completely pristine and sees very few divers. The islet itself is a seabird nesting area — frigatebirds, boobies, and tropicbirds nest on the rocky cliffs. Battowia is the definition of a remote adventure anchorage — challenging approach, limited protection, no facilities, extraordinary natural beauty. Only experienced offshore sailors in well-found vessels should attempt an overnight here. For most cruisers, this is a day stop for snorkelling and seabird watching.
