About This Anchorage

The Uostadvaris Inner Reach is an anchorage in the transitional zone between the Curonian Lagoon proper and the delta channels of the Nemunas system — a zone where the lagoon's open water gives way to the reed beds, channels, and wetlands of the delta. The anchorage offers the classic Nemunas Delta combination of excellent mud holding, natural shelter from northerly and westerly winds, and extraordinary wildlife. The inner reach is characterised by the transition vegetation of the delta margin — reed beds giving way to willow scrub and then to the taller alder forest of the channel margins. Navigation through this area requires careful chart work and a cautious approach speed, with the depth sounder active at all times. The surrounding landscape of the Nemunas Delta Regional Park is at its most biodiverse in this transitional zone, where lagoon, reed bed, and river channel ecosystems overlap. This is prime white-tailed eagle territory — the river channels provide the eagles with the shallow-water fishing they prefer, and sightings are almost inevitable during a day spent in the delta. The anchorage connects the sailing world of the Curonian Lagoon with the wilder world of the delta rivers.
