About This Anchorage
Kintu Cape (Kintas) is a low promontory on the delta edge where the Nemunas Delta wetlands meet the southeastern corner of the Curonian Lagoon. The cape provides a natural windbreak from westerly and northwesterly winds, making it one of the better-sheltered anchorages in the lower delta and lagoon area. Anchoring off the cape in 2–4m on excellent delta mud, sailors can explore both the delta channels by dinghy and the lagoon's open water. The landscape here is quintessential Lithuanian delta — flat fields protected by dykes, reed beds extending to the water's edge, and the vast sky above the lagoon that gives this part of Lithuania its characteristic openness. The cape itself is a nature reserve, part of the Nemunas Delta Regional Park, and the birdwatching is outstanding. In the evening, the setting sun over the lagoon turns the water and the reed beds to gold — one of the Baltic's quietly beautiful moments. This anchorage is for those who want to combine the exploration of the delta's wild channels with the wider perspective of the lagoon's open water.
