Anchorages in the Gulf of Naples & Islands
Capri, Ischia, Procida, and the ancient submerged ruins of Baia form one of the Mediterranean's most dramatic sailing grounds. The AMP Parco Sommerso di Baia restricts anchoring over Roman ruins. Ferry traffic from Naples is the busiest in the Mediterranean. The Scirocco builds dangerous swell rapidly in the open Gulf. AMP Parco Sommerso di Baia — Anchoring Restricted
The Baia underwater archaeological park protects the submerged Roman city (2–15m depth). Zone A: no entry. Zone B: mooring buoys only — free anchoring strictly prohibited. Zone C: anchoring on sand only. Guided diving required in Zones A/B. Contact the AMP at parcobaia.it or VHF Ch 16 for current zone boundaries and mooring buoy availability. The Campi Flegrei caldera beneath Pozzuoli remains geologically active — monitor INGV (ov.ingv.it) for current alert levels before visiting the Baia/Miseno area.
Scirocco & Ferry Traffic Warning
The Scirocco (SE wind) builds dangerous 2–3m swell rapidly in the open Gulf of Naples. Many anchorages around Capri, Ischia, and the mainland become untenable quickly. Have an immediate departure plan at all times. The Naples–Capri–Ischia–Procida ferry/hydrofoil network is the busiest in the Mediterranean — maintain at least 300m clearance from ferry lanes and harbour entrances at all times.
