About This Anchorage
The Veleka River mouth is one of the most beautiful natural anchorages on the entire Bulgarian Black Sea coast — the point where one of Bulgaria's last truly wild rivers meets the sea through a sweeping forested estuary. The Veleka flows from deep within the Strandzha Nature Park, threading through ancient oak and beech forest that has been largely untouched for centuries. The river mouth creates a broad sandy bay with excellent holding on river-deposited sediment, and the wooded hills rising directly from the shore provide a dramatic backdrop. Sinemorets village (1nm south) offers basic provisions without disturbing the wild character of this anchorage. The river itself is navigable by dinghy for several kilometres upstream through riparian forest — one of the finest small-boat expeditions on the Black Sea. At dawn, with mist rising from the river and herons stalking the shallows, this anchorage ranks among the most serene on the western Black Sea.
