About This Anchorage
Kiten is one of the quietest and most pleasant resorts on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast — a small town with two beaches (Atliman and Kavatsite) separated by a low headland. The headland creates the sheltering geometry that makes the south bay anchorage (Atliman) particularly useful in the prevalent northeast summer wind. Kiten was developed in the communist era as a resort, but on a human scale that has made it far more liveable than the concrete giants of the northern coast. The surrounding landscape of forested hills reaching down toward the coast gives Kiten a more Mediterranean character than areas further north. The south bay is a comfortable overnight anchorage with reasonable shelter and the prospect of a quiet town for provisions — a good base for the final southern leg of a Bulgarian coast passage toward Tsarevo and the Turkish border.
