Antalya Old Harbour Anchorage Guide
Also known as: Kaleiçi Limanı, Roman Harbour, Antalya Kaleiçi, Antalya Marina
Antalya's Kaleiçi (Old City) harbour is a breathtaking Roman-era harbour cut from the natural rock in the 2nd century AD, now completely surrounded by the Ottoman old town. It is one of the most historically significant small boat harbours in the Mediterranean. The entry is very narrow and draft is strictly limited to 2m maximum. VHF contact with the harbour master is required before approach. For boats that can enter, the experience of berthing inside a functioning 2,000-year-old harbour surrounded by Roman towers and Ottoman-era architecture is unforgettable. Antalya's old city (Kaleiçi) is a UNESCO-protected heritage area.

Historically significant Roman harbour cut from natural rock. EXTREME DRAFT RESTRICTION: maximum 2m draft. Historically and architecturally extraordinary.
Setting Your Anchor
The bottom at Antalya Old Harbour is primarily sand and mud with reliable holding when properly set. Use the following approach:
- Approach slowly and check your depth sounder on the way in. At 1–2m, deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (14m chain at 2m depth).
- Drop into the wind or current and pay out chain steadily as the boat drifts back — do not allow chain to pile on the anchor.
- Set firmly in reverse. Apply moderate throttle astern for 30–60 seconds. The chain should tighten without the boat moving backwards.
- Take a GPS bearing. Note your position once set and compare to the scope calculator to confirm you have adequate chain for the depth.
Recommended anchor types for this bottom: Rocna, Delta. See our guide to anchor types by bottom for detailed comparisons.

- Limited berths — call ahead as the tiny harbour fills quickly in season
- Antalya is a major city — significant water and air traffic, noise, and urban environment
- Strong Poyraz (NE) in autumn can affect the outer approach — approach in settled conditions

A note on this guide: The data in this guide has been researched from multiple sailing sources and is provided in good faith. Anchorage conditions — including depth, holding, and local regulations — can change. Before visiting, always check current weather forecasts, NAVTEX and VHF weather bulletins, and consult your up-to-date charts.
