Çiftlik Koyu Anchorage Guide
Also known as: Ciftlik Koyu, Çiftlik Bay, Ciftlik Cove
Çiftlik Koyu is an east-facing cove on the south side of the Çeşme Peninsula, providing one of the best meltemi refuges on this exposed stretch of coast. When the summer NW/W meltemi blows at 20–35 knots in July and August, east-facing bays become the preferred overnight stops — and Çiftlik Koyu is a prime example. The bay is quiet, relatively undeveloped, and offers reliable holding on sand and mud. Access to Çeşme town is by road (approximately 6km) or by dinghy to flag a passing water taxi.

Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius
50m in the main cove. East-facing bays like Çiftlik Koyu are specifically valued on the Çeşme Peninsula during the strong July–August meltemi — the NW/W wind blows directly off the surrounding hills and the bay faces away from it. E/SE exposure is rare in summer. If easterlies are forecast (uncommon), relocate to Reisdere or Sifne Koyu.

East-facing cove providing excellent protection from the NW/W meltemi. Sand and mud bottom with reliable holding. Anchor in 6–10m in the centre of the cove. One of the best meltemi-shelter options on the west coast of the Çeşme Peninsula.
Setting Your Anchor
The bottom at Çiftlik Koyu is primarily sand and mud with reliable holding when properly set. Use the following approach:
- Approach slowly and check your depth sounder on the way in. At 5–12m, deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (84m chain at 12m depth).
- Drop into the wind or current and pay out chain steadily as the boat drifts back — do not allow chain to pile on the anchor.
- Set firmly in reverse. Apply moderate throttle astern for 30–60 seconds. The chain should tighten without the boat moving backwards.
- Take a GPS bearing. Note your position once set and compare to the scope calculator to confirm you have adequate chain for the depth.
Recommended anchor types for this bottom: Rocna, Delta, Mantus. See our guide to anchor types by bottom for detailed comparisons.

Skipper's Tips
- This is the go-to meltemi refuge on the south Çeşme Peninsula — when NW winds are blowing 25kt+, this bay is calm
- Stock up in Çeşme town before heading here — no provisions available
- The bay is particularly good for boats with air-conditioning — the meltemi outside keeps temperatures down while you stay sheltered inside
- Good overnight choice before an early-morning departure south toward Reisdere or Mordoğan
A note on this guide: The data in this guide has been researched from multiple sailing sources and is provided in good faith. Anchorage conditions — including depth, holding, and local regulations — can change. Before visiting, always check current weather forecasts, NAVTEX and VHF weather bulletins, and consult your up-to-date charts. Use a GPS anchor alarm and never rely solely on a guide for navigational decisions.
