About This Anchorage

Lower Bay is a beautiful, less-crowded alternative to the main Admiralty Bay anchorage — a gorgeous crescent of white sand on Bequia's southern coast, just a 10-minute dinghy ride from Port Elizabeth. The beach is backed by coconut palms and a handful of charming beach restaurants and bars including De Reef, which is known for its excellent local food and Caribbean atmosphere. The anchorage is open to the south but well-protected from the NE trades, and in the prevailing trade wind season it provides a comfortable and quieter overnight spot than the main bay. The snorkelling off the reef at the eastern headland is excellent — clear water and healthy coral with colourful reef fish. Lower Bay beach is popular with local Bequians at weekends — a happy, relaxed Caribbean scene.
