Anchorages in Marigot Bay & South Coast

The most beautiful bay in the Caribbean (Marigot), the twin Pitons UNESCO World Heritage Site (Gros 798m, Petit 743m), mandatory SMMA mooring throughout the Soufrière zone (EC$54/night), and the most dramatic overnight stop in the Caribbean — directly between the volcanic Piton walls.

SMMA mandatory mooring — Marigot Bay speed limit — Vieux Fort caution

SMMA zone (Soufrière to Anse des Pitons): Anchoring is absolutely prohibited in the entire Soufrière Marine Management Area. All yachts must use designated mooring buoys (white/blue only — red buoys are for dive boats, never use). Coral Conservation Permit mandatory: EC$54 (US$20)/night. SMMA Rangers patrol on VHF 16 and collect fees on arrival. No swimming outside moored area without permission. Fines enforced. Marigot Bay inner section: Strict 3-knot speed limit — no wake at any time; enforced. Anchor port side (left) of centreline on entry. Call marina on VHF 16 before entering. Vieux Fort (south): Strongest current and least shelter on the island. St. Vincent Channel immediately south accelerates trade winds to 20–30kt+ — plan passage carefully.

Set Your Anchor Alarm Before You Sleep

Even on SMMA mooring buoys, chafe and current can cause movement overnight. Safety Anchor Alarm monitors your GPS position continuously — wake up before you drag into the coral or the Piton cliff face.
