Nordland Critical Hazards — Read Before Anchoring

• Saltstraumen whirlpool 37kt: the world's strongest tidal current (4nm SE of Bodø) — transit ONLY at slack water (±20 min). Never attempt in any swell or wind. Check Kystverket.no tidal tables before approach.
• Arctic Circle sailing: midnight sun May–July means 24h daylight — maintain a regular watch schedule; fatigue is the primary hazard in 24h sun conditions.
• Hypothermia risk year-round: water temperature 4–12°C even in summer — immersion/survival suits mandatory for all crew on deck in Nordland; no exceptions.
• Svartisen glacier calving zones: the Svartisen ice cap calves into Holandsfjord — never approach within 200m of the glacier face; sudden waves and ice debris.
