Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius
45m
45m for excellent holding on white sand in 1–3m. The Fonds Blancs are very shallow — verify clearance at all tides. Even a 30cm Caribbean tide matters here. The holding is exceptional — white sand sets anchors immediately. This is a very calm anchorage.
About This Anchorage
Le François Bay on Martinique's Atlantic coast is famous throughout the island for the Fonds Blancs — extraordinary shallow white sand banks rising almost to the surface in the middle of the sheltered bay, where Martiniquais families wade, drink, and hold open-air waterside celebrations in waist-deep water. The setting is uniquely Caribbean: a shallow turquoise lagoon protected by reef and mangrove coast, with the white sand banks creating a natural beach platform just below the surface. Boats anchor in 1–3m on brilliant white sand with exceptional holding, and the calm, protected water makes it one of the most relaxing anchorages in Martinique. Le François town ashore is the largest town on the Atlantic coast with good provisioning, restaurants, and a weekly market. Weekend afternoons at Fonds Blancs are a quintessential Martiniquais social experience — local music, rum punch, and families wading in warm water.

In north Martinique, anchor drag toward wreck debris, coral, or into an exposed position on the wild north coast carries serious risk. Safety Anchor Alarm monitors your GPS position continuously so you can sleep soundly while the volcano watches over the bay.
