About This Anchorage
Uostadvaris anchorage lies just inside the mouth of the Curonian Lagoon, sheltered from the open Baltic by the Klaipėda Strait and the northern tip of the Curonian Spit. This is the first calm water a vessel encounters after transiting the busy strait, offering excellent protection from westerly and northwesterly winds that dominate the Baltic summer. The small settlement of Uostadvaris on the eastern mainland shore gives the anchorage its name, and a wooded shoreline provides a tranquil backdrop after the industrial approaches of Klaipėda Port. Depths of 2–5m over mud and sand provide reliable holding, and the lagoon's calm surface — the Curonian Lagoon is entirely tideless and generally flat — makes this a comfortable overnight stop. The anchorage serves as a perfect transition between open Baltic sailing and the remarkable world of the Curonian Lagoon, where the extraordinary dune landscapes of the Curonian Spit UNESCO World Heritage site unfold to the south. Klaipėda city facilities are a short dinghy ride or coastal walk away.
