About This Anchorage
Pervalka is perhaps the most secluded anchorage on the Lithuanian Curonian Spit — a tiny village of barely 50 permanent residents, surrounded by ancient pine forest and the silent dune landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage spit. The cove anchorage sits in the characteristic shallow water of the Curonian Lagoon, with depths of just 1.5–3.0m on sand and mud, and the western dune ridge provides shelter from the Baltic winds that flow across from the open sea. Pervalka has no tourist infrastructure to speak of — no restaurants, no car ferry link — and this isolation gives it a special quality that the more visited Juodkrantė and Nida cannot replicate. The lagoon here is intensely blue in summer, and the water is unusually clear given the lagoon's moderate salinity. The spit's pine forests are crossed by cycling and walking paths linking the three Lithuanian villages. A small wooden jetty serves the village's handful of fishing boats, and visiting sailors can land by dinghy to walk the dune paths. The silence of an anchorage here on a calm summer evening, with only bird calls and the distant sound of wind in the pines, is one of the Baltic's special experiences.
