Spartochori, Meganisi Anchorage Guide
Also known as: Σπαρτοχώρι, Spartochori Bay
Spartochori is a picturesque hilltop village on Meganisi's NW coast, with a small bay below it offering a comfortable anchorage in the prevailing NW conditions. Meganisi is one of the most unspoiled islands in the Ionian — a permanent population of a few hundred, excellent walking trails through wild terrain, and some of the best seafood tavernas in the region. The climb from the anchorage to the village is steep but rewarding: the panoramic view over the Ionian and the island of Lefkada is outstanding. Spartochori is a quieter alternative to Vathy (the main port on Meganisi's S coast).

Setting Your Anchor
The bottom at Spartochori, Meganisi is primarily mud and sand with reliable holding when properly set. Use the following approach:
- Approach slowly and check your depth sounder on the way in. At 3–6m, deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (42m chain at 6m depth).
- Drop into the wind or current and pay out chain steadily as the boat drifts back — do not allow chain to pile on the anchor.
- Set firmly in reverse. Apply moderate throttle astern for 30–60 seconds. The chain should tighten without the boat moving backwards.
- Take a GPS bearing. Note your position once set and compare to the scope calculator to confirm you have adequate chain for the depth.
Recommended anchor types for this bottom: Delta, Rocna, CQR. See our guide to anchor types by bottom for detailed comparisons.
