Anchorages in the Society Islands
Tahiti (Papeete — the South Pacific's best provisioning port), the dramatic volcanic bays of Moorea, authentic Huahine, the sacred island of Raiatea, and Tahaa the vanilla island. 13 verified anchorages with depth, holding, and anchor alarm data.
Coral bommies — anchor in sand only
Coral bommies (scattered coral heads 0.5–2m below surface) are present in all Society Islands lagoons. Navigate only in good light (10:00–14:00) with polarised sunglasses. Snorkel to verify anchor placement in sand before leaving the boat. No anchoring on coral anywhere in French Polynesia. Cyclone season November–April — depart by end of October.
