About This Anchorage
Pellinki (Swedish: Pellinge) is the main island in the outer Porvoo archipelago — the eastern extension of the Helsinki coast archipelago, lying between the Helsinki approaches and the restricted eastern Gulf of Finland. The island was an important fishing community historically and retains a Swedish-speaking character despite its proximity to the Finnish-speaking mainland. The surrounding archipelago is noticeably different from the western Helsinki coast — lower granite islands, open views toward Estonia and the Gulf shipping lanes, and a sense of the eastern Baltic that differs from the Turku or Åland sailing areas. The anchorage at Pellinki is a practical overnight stop for sailors on the eastern Helsinki coast or those based out of Porvoo (12nm north). The medieval old town of Porvoo (one of Finland's most beautiful) is easily reached by day trip.

Skipper's Tips
- →Pellinki is a quiet base for exploring the eastern Helsinki coast — far fewer yachts than the western archipelago
- →Porvoo (12nm by boat or road) is one of Finland's finest historic towns — the medieval old town with its painted wooden warehouses is extraordinary; combine with the anchorage
- →The Gulf shipping lanes pass south of Pellinki — the large tankers and container ships visible on the horizon give a sense of the Baltic Sea's commercial importance
- →The water east of Helsinki is noticeably saltier than the western archipelago — the Gulf of Finland is less diluted by river inflow
- →From Pellinki, the eastern Gulf sailing season is effectively shorter due to the Russian border — plan passages well west of the Russian straight baseline
