About This Anchorage
Orrengrund is a small lighthouse island in the outer eastern Gulf of Finland, notable for its significant navigation history and its position close to both the Loviisa nuclear power plant approach zone and the Russian border area. The lighthouse has guided ships through the eastern Gulf for centuries. The island offers a sheltered anchorage on its north side when the prevailing southerly swell is running, and a quiet, remote experience typical of the outer Gulf islands. The proximity to sensitive zones (nuclear plant exclusion, Russian border) requires careful navigation chart work on the approach — but the island itself is Finnish territory and free anchoring (jokaisenoikeus) applies.
