About This Anchorage
Lumparland is a small Åland municipality on the eastern mainland area of Åland, surrounding the Lumpar fjärden — an inner sound between the Åland mainland and the outer island of Föglö. The sound gives outstanding anchorage in deep mud and clay with shelter from most directions. The landscape here is typical inner Åland — open farmland, pine forest, and red granite coastline, with the characteristic traditional farms of the Swedish-speaking archipelago community. The anchorage is only 12nm from Mariehamn but feels far removed from the busy capital — quiet, sheltered, and with a genuine sense of rural Åland island life. An excellent alternative to the busy Mariehamn anchorage for the first or last night of an Åland cruise.
