About This Anchorage

Aegna is a small forested island (3.2 km²) at the mouth of Tallinn Bay, Estonia's most popular overnight sailing destination near the capital. The island is a nature reserve administered by Tallinn City — no permanent residents, but a water taxi service runs from Tallinn in summer making it accessible to day visitors. Sailors come for the forest trails, sandy beaches, and the WWII coastal defence heritage. The island was heavily fortified by both the German and Soviet armies during WWII, and the concrete bunkers, gun emplacements, and searchlight positions are still largely intact. The anchorage on the south side is sheltered from the prevailing northerly Gulf of Finland winds.
