About This Anchorage

Kabli is a small nature reserve and bird ringing station on the south coast of Estonia, facing the open Gulf of Riga. The Kabli Bird Ringing Station has operated continuously since 1967 and is one of the most productive ringing stations in northern Europe — tens of thousands of migrating birds are caught, measured, and released each year during spring and autumn passages. The autumn migration (Sep–Oct) sees extraordinary concentrations of raptors, passerines, and waders passing through. The coastline is sandy with pine forest behind, and the beach is clean and undeveloped. The anchorage is exposed to the prevailing westerly Gulf of Riga winds — it is a fine day stop in settled conditions but not suitable for overnight.
