About This Anchorage
Fur is the most geologically remarkable island in Denmark — its 55-million-year-old moler (diatomite) cliffs on the north and west coasts contain extraordinarily well-preserved fossils: fish, insects, plants, and occasionally even feathers. The Fur Museum has the finest collection of moler fossils in the world. The island has approximately 800 permanent residents, and the Fur Bryghus (craft brewery) produces some of the finest regional beers in northern Jutland. The anchorage in Fur Sund south of the island is on excellent Limfjord mud with good shelter. The island is crossed by cycle paths — the circuit (12km) reveals the dramatic west-coast moler cliffs and the gentler agricultural east coast. The small harbour at Fur has limited visitors' berths.
