Rogač Anchorage Guide
Also known as: Rogač Bay, Uvala Rogač, Rogač Šolta
Rogač is the main ferry port of Šolta island, with regular daily connections to Split. The bay is large and the anchorage NE of the ferry quay offers good holding on sand and mud with protection from N and W winds. Being the practical hub of the island, Rogač has better provisioning than the smaller Šolta bays. The ferry creates regular wash but the anchorage bay is far enough from the quay to be manageable. Good overnight stop for crews wanting to resupply before heading further W or N.

Recommended Anchor Alarm Radius
65m appropriate for 3–6m sand/mud with 5:1 scope. The bay is large — swing room is good in the NE section away from the ferry quay. Monitor ferry schedules; the wash can be significant. In S/SE conditions increase scope and alarm radius to 85m.
Set this in Safety Anchor Alarm — FreeThe Anchorage
The anchorage lies NE of the ferry quay in the large bay. Sand and mud bottom in 3–6m gives good holding. Protected from N, NW and the Bura. Exposed to S and SE — Jugo swell can enter the bay. Day/evening traffic from the Split–Šolta ferry; keep well clear of the ferry approach lane. Good overnight option in stable summer weather.
Setting Your Anchor
The bottom at Rogač is primarily sand and mud with reliable holding when properly set.
- Approach slowly — check depth sounder. Deploy at minimum 7:1 scope (56m chain at 8m depth).
- Drop into wind or current and pay out chain steadily.
- Set firmly in reverse — apply moderate throttle for 30–60 seconds.
- Snorkel to verify — confirm anchor is on sand/mud, not Posidonia (anchoring on Posidonia carries fines up to €2,000 in Croatia).
Recommended anchor types: Rocna, Mantus, Delta.
Overnight Anchoring & Anchor Alarm
Overnight stays at Rogač are feasible but require monitoring — exposed to S and SE and E.
Set your GPS anchor alarm to 65m radius before sleeping. 65m appropriate for 3–6m sand/mud with 5:1 scope. The bay is large — swing room is good in the NE section away from the ferry quay. Monitor ferry schedules; the wash can be significant. In S/SE conditions increase scope and alarm radius to 85m.
Usable year-round but most useful in shoulder season for provisioning. July–August is busiest with ferry traffic but the anchorage bay remains workable.
Navigation Hazards
- Ferry wash — Split–Rogač ferries create significant wash; ensure anchor is well set and deck gear secured
- S and SE exposure — Jugo swell enters the bay; move to Necujam Bay or Maslinica in SE conditions
- Ferry approach lane — do not anchor in the marked approach channel

Skipper's Tips
- Use this anchorage as a provisioning stop rather than a leisure destination — the ferry infrastructure makes the waterfront busy
- Good cell phone signal here — useful for downloading forecasts and checking in
- For a quieter night, motor the 4nm to Maslinica or 3nm to Nečujam — far more pleasant atmosphere
A note on this guide: Data has been researched from multiple sailing sources and is provided in good faith. Always check current weather, NAVTEX/VHF bulletins, and HHI charts before visiting. Use a GPS anchor alarm and never rely solely on a guide for navigational decisions.
