Tulenovo Cove

About This Anchorage

Tulenovo Cove is one of the most visually dramatic anchorages on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast — a tiny rocky inlet cut into limestone cliffs, with sea caves, natural arches, and water of extraordinary clarity. The name 'Tulenovo' derives from the Bulgarian word for seal (тюлен) — monk seals frequented this coast historically, and though they are now locally extinct, the name persists. The rock formations here have been sculpted by millennia of Black Sea erosion into extraordinary shapes — overhanging cliffs, sea stacks, and tunnels. Local free divers and snorkellers know Tulenovo as one of the best underwater exploration sites on the Bulgarian coast. For sailors, this is a breathtaking lunch stop in calm conditions, with the boat anchored in crystal-clear water against a backdrop of golden limestone cliffs.
